Dear Aethervox Listeners,

Over the past fourteen months we have been proud to bring you The Aethervox, covering all aspects of Wyrd Miniatures’ character-driven, tabletop skirmish game, Malifaux. Sadly, all good things must come to an end.

When Ian and Julian first began The Aethervox, in February 2011, we were the only dedicated Malifaux podcast on the internet, and we proudly filled what we saw as a lacuna in the miniature wargaming podcast landscape. But ever since the meteoric rise of certain other Malifaux podcasts, we have begun to feel that The Aethervox has become redundant—a dinosaur among mammals, a V1 statcard in a V2 meta.

We believe we have served the community well, bringing you the latest news, commentary and tactics interviews (and, we hope, a few laughs along the way), but it is time for Ian, Adrian and Julian to move on to bigger and better things. We feel secure leaving you in the capable hands of the good folks at Cheated Fates Radio, and of course our old friend and mentor, Bill at The Gamer’s Lounge. With such talented and dedicated guardians watching over Malifaux, we will rest assured knowing that the community will continue to flourish and thrive without us.

BUT WAIT!

We may be done with Malifaux, but we’re certainly not done with podcasting. Now that Malifaux has achieved near-total dominance within the hobby, we feel that there are other, lesser-known games that deserve our attention. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, like a phoenix rising from the ashes of The Aethervox, we are today announcing the launch of our brand new podcast: VoxHammer Xtreme. This new show will be dedicated to a little-known tabletop battle game that the three of us recently discovered and immediately fell in love with. It’s called Warhammer 40,000. “40k” (as the cognoscenti know it) is a futuristic battle game created by UK-based games company Games Workshop.

Like The Aethervox, VoxHammer Xtreme is designed to appeal to newcomers and veterans alike, so whether you’ve heard of Warhammer 40,000 or not, please click the link below, give our new podcast a listen and let us know what you think.

Thank you all for your support and encouragement. It’s been a blast!

Peace!

Julian, Ian and Adrian

For our tenth episode we have a real mixed bag: we have an interview with David McGuire, author of many of the stories in Twisting Fates, about what it’s like to write fluff for Malifaux; “The Other White Meat,” a continuation of Mr. Magpie’s Cemetery Circus story arc; the second part of our fluff segment with special guest co-host Shawn Kehoe, who also tells us all about Hal Con, Halifax’s sci-fi convention (we will be there, and Ian will be running Malifaux demos). In ”The Man Comes Around,” Rathnard discusses his stolen Gen Con order, avatars, and his minion-of-the-month Jack Daw. And we have the usual blabber about Wyrd’s new releases, game reports and mindless gossip. Plus, we announce our first ever contest!

Episode 5 is here, and it’s a Gen Con special! Sadly, we’re not at Gen Con, but we caught up with Eric Johns last week to get the skinny on all the new releases. We also review TerraClips, have the debut of a new regular segment from Rathnard, and new fiction from a new Aethervox talespinner. “Mr. Magpie’s Cemetery Circus” is on holiday this month, so we have the first two chapters of “Confessions of an Aspiring Resurrectionist” by Mike Howell.

We have a tactics interview on Ramos recorded and edited, but we decided to do something slightly different this episode. Instead of having the tactica as part of the main episode, we’re going to start alternating between a normal episode and a tactics interview every two weeks. This will help us get content out more regularly, and keep episodes under 3 hours. So keep your eyes peeled for our Ramos tactics interview with LoboStele in a couple of weeks.

Apologies for bad sound quality in parts. Our microphones were acting up.

This month we have all the regular segments (it feels good to be able to say that) – “The Doppelganger,” “The Malifaux Ministry of Music, Movies and Other Media,” “Tales from the Aether Part Four,” “Hobby Challenge,” “Game Report,” a review of the Rules Manual and more.

Plus, we have another amazing interview. This time the subject is Pandora, and our interviewee in Karn, a consummate tactician and true gentleman. It was a biggie, so I’ve only included the first 90 minutes here. We will release the interview in its entirety (about twice as long) as a bonus episode shortly.

If you want any more details about the things we discuss in this episode (names of songs, links to images of models etc.) please refer to the show notes in this post after the jump. <del>We’ll be putting up the promised photos of our table and hoodoos soon.</del> UPDATE: Images of our badlands table now up on the Gallery page.
